James J. O'Donnell is University Librarian and Professor of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies at Arizona State University. He has been a widely-regarded professor of classics and ancient history, author of nine scholarly books, mainly on late antique and early medieval culture, and at the same time a well-known innovator, advocate, and theoretician in the world of digital humanities since co-founding Bryn Mawr Classical Review in 1990, the oldest open access scholarly journal in the world. In 1996, he became chief information officer at the University of Pennsylvania, in 2002 Provost of Georgetown University, and arrived at ASU in 2015.
